You Have the Right to Remain Silent, Use it.

Too often people suspected of a crime try and talk their way out of it. You have the right to remain silent, use it! The more you talk, the worst off you will be. When you make a statement, you are allowing the prosecutor to focus on the truth of your statements rather than proving you guilty. When you talk to the cops, they are happy because you make them look good, the prosecutor is happy because you made his job easier, and your attorney is unhappy because you made his job much harder. The prosecutor bears the burden of proof, not you. If you take that burden from them and put too much out there, you have lost any advantage at trial your attorney could have gained. Officers are allowed to lie and they do. They call it a 'ruse', the rest of us call it a lie. They will not put your kids up for adoption, they will not shoot your dog, they will not put in a good word for you with

the prosecutor, the first person to rat out his friends will gain no benefit and may have serious problems in jail. These are all lies intended to get you to talk and make their job easier to convict you. Keep your mouth shut, which is your constitutional right, and call a lawyer as soon as you can. You are presumed innocent unless and until a jury decides you aren't or when you take a deal that admits guilt. Don't lose that presumption because you think you can outsmart everyone. Make my job easier so I can have a better chance at getting the outcome you want. Keep your mouth shut.
